We understand how accessibility, availability and exponentially growing quantity of climate big data requires innovative technological advancements and practical implementations.
As a complex dynamical system, the Earth demands big data analytics in climate science and OIKO requires the use of supporting technologies such as cloud computing, big data tools to investigate climate, as well as intelligent analytics platforms and new technological progressions, to study possible impacts on climate science and big data science development, especially in the areas of energy efficiency, intelligent agriculture, smart urban planning, weather forecast, natural disaster management, etc.
OIKO integrates and applies scientific data and information technologies to facilitate access to all users up to the last mile to make informed and rational use of resources and risk under an ever-changing climate and environment. We focus on the analysis of essential climate variables based on Earth observation & satellite space data, combined with weather stations to monitor the climate and uncover changing patterns of earth, forest, flooding areas, sea level rise or critical infrastrucuture.
We use Earth Science technology to improve the quality of life in our world, especially the economic livelihood opportunities of the world's most vulnerable populations and the sustainable use of the natural resources of our planet. Our work is divided in six main program areas- Climate Adaptation, Climate Mitigation, Ecosystems, Natural Resources, Poverty & Livelihoods and Climate Services.
